Hello All,
I have a customer that I am trying to open files he has created in Sketch Up. It appears I can open a .skp file but it doesn't seem to be working. I need his 2D drawings. Is there a certain way he needs to save his files for me to open them in Aspire? Can he save them in a different format that will work better? I am not familiar with Sketch Up. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Importing Sketch Up .skp file
1. Are you opening or importing. Should be importing
2. The sketchup interface works better when he creates each of items that you are going to import as either a group or a component. If he hasn't done that, then it may not work as you want. When I create a sketchup drawing, I create each board in the model as a separate component, and they usually import well.

To add to what Steve has already said be sure when importing that you're using the Import Vectors icon on the Drawing tab or the Import Vectors command on the file menu. That will give you the 2D vectors. If you import using the Import Model icon/command instead then you will get a 3D model from the Sketchup file that isn't what you want in your case.

You might need to get your customer to "save as" Sketchup Version 20xx depending on which version of Aspire or VCarve you are working with.

Re: Importing Sketch Up .skp file
Keith, thank you! That was it. All my client had to do was save it as a 2016 .skp and it opened fine. He has version 2017.
Thanks,
Mark
