Vcarve with Texture

Post by jackson74 »

Can anyone point me in the direction for learning how to add texture to sins and vcarve in them.

I keep getting the texture low and the vcarve un-textured part looking uneven.

Also, any advice on how to paint signs with texture and 3d elements? I use to shellac the wood, Vcarve , paint the vcarve and then send through though sander. With 3d elements and texture though this no longer would work nor would masking I assume?

TIA

How do you and why would you add texture to sins?

Sorry for the typo, meant to change "sins" to "signs" last night

But yes, like the "hello world" 3D view.

Do I Vcarve first then add texture? Do I shellac and sand or use a mask

I am confused on the best approach.

With Vcarving I would , for example, create my blank, shellac it, Vcarve my lettering with a .03 start depth.. I would spray my lettering not worrying about over-spray and then sand down .03 on the drum sander.

2. If I used a painted wood, I would paint and then mask, then paint the lettering.

For the Hello World" example what would be the best way to paint the lettering and/or paint the texture as well?

Do you use the Vcarve toolpath with Aspire or just create all the lettering in the 3D model? If so, is there a way to create a start point in the 3D toolpath to sand down over-spray for crisp lines?

Thanks for any help,

OK, here's the Hello World file.

Basically create a bounding box around the sign, highlight both the text and bounding box and use the Texturing Toolpath. To keep the texture a distance away from the text use the Bounding Box Offset. Then VCarve the Text separately.

There are more (lots more) options, but this should help get you pointed in the direction.

I'd carve the background, stain or paint it, then vcarve the text, seal the vcarved text then paint the letters.

Conner gives a really good tutorial on painting/staining signs.
