Modifying a 3D probed object in Aspire - ShopBot probe

Post by michaeld13 »

Hi All. I have Vectric Vcarve Pro and was looking at Aspire. I downloaded the trial version to see if I could do what I need to. I posted an image. Basically I probed this object using the ShopBot 3d probe tool and brought it into Aspire. What I need to do is cut it in half where I drew the line and mirror the other half to make the full object- but I can seem to access any of the editing tools under the Model pull down menu. I know I'm doing something wrong... any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Say OK to your posted .stl so you get the model into Aspire.
Use the tool to draw a vector around the selected component.
Draw a straight vector at the center (like your blue line).
Use scissors to trim the vectors to leave only the half you want.
Use cookie cutter to remove everything outside the closed vector.
Copy what's left and flip horizontally.
Move the two halves to touch each other. Use merge to prevent a bump at the joined section.

Thank you Mike for tkaing the time to reply with those details! Would you be interested in doing this for me? I need to also scan the back of the object- but I think I just need one line that follows the contour- it's the same across the whole object. It basically conforms over molding on the backside... I attached a photo. So it's a 2-sided job... I'm pretty new to this and can't afford to upgrade to Aspire right now. But maybe you'd be interested for a fee? Let me know. Thanks in advance! I see you are in NC as well!

Mike, this thread vanished for a while- but it's been restored. let me know on the above. I did use your suggestions and was able trim it, mirror and weld the 3d object together and play around with the other tools- not as hard as I thought with your general guidance. But I still need someone more familiar with the software to give me a hand... and one who has the program to begin with! Let me know. Thank you!!

Zip your .stl and post. It's pretty easy to get a whole part from just a half.
If it zips too big (2meg) to post, then eMail to dyerwire1 at frontier.com
