AHHHHHHH ---- now this thread makes sense.

Sooooooooo

Can you just fill the routed pocket with water ---- pour it out into a container - and measure that?????

In my limited testing this seemed to be accurate to within 1% or better, but we had some initial reports that when people cut the part they weren't getting the same values. This may have been due to the tool not being able to cut all areas but any feedback on the accuracy of this result compared to the real world parts would be appreciated.

Awesome! I'll give it a shot and see what I get.

Anybody come up with a way to calculate volume using VCP9.517 since this was posted?
I've got my Father's ashes, and will be carving out a pocket in this burl, and then capping it with a Birdseye Maple Topo of his favorite mountain.
5.5.19 MAPLE BURL SLAB TREE SIDE JIGGED 600G 1 COAT ROSEN MIX.jpg
Just doing extremely rough calculations now that the burl is surfaced to finish on both sides.
Vectors shown are nowhere near close yet, but final vectors will be used to trim shape of the Topo as well.

Will be trying to follow heartwood/sapwood line to some extent.
Haven't even measured ash volume yet :(

Hoping to be able to keep the burl jigged up, so water and sand would be a REAL PITA.
Any help or ideas appreciated!

Scott? The alt-shift-ctrl-V thing is not working for you?

I am happy this thread was revived, I never knew one could get volumes of models. Now, if I can keep from forgetting it is there. . . .

Only VCP here Ted...and it's not a model...just what will be a very strange shaped pocket following the grain pattern hopefully.
Guess I may have to fudge and guesstimate, and THEN use that vector boundary to trim my Topo and place the mountain in the shape so it looks right.
Thanks Ted!

The measurement tool will give you the area of a closed vector. Then you just have to multiply it by the depth of the pocket, or determine the depth by dividing the desired volume by the area of the vector.

just made a 6"x6"x2" square hole/pocket, math says 72.0

Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V says 72.0960

Not too bad for an unofficial function!

Is there a list of other unofficial functions like this???

Thanks Euan!
By water displacement in plastic bag...ashes are 500ML=30.5119 cubic inches(rounding up).
Pocket mod this morning is 36 cubic inches(rounding down and counting the .25" recess added for mountain to be Inlayed).
Never needed surface area before.
THANKS!!
