collets

Post by vfauto »

Can anyone give some ideas on quick tool change collets for spindles. Using two wrenches is getting old.
Thank You
Frank

A google search for "quick change er collets" brings up quite a few interesting options. Can't say I've tried any of them but the idea of being able to have tool depths preset is quite appealing.

Don't use the one that has a cap-screw on the side. They cost about $50 and they push the bit to one side and alignment is nearly impossible. dh

In the meanwhile, you could attach each wrench to a piece of hardwood/plywood 1-1/2 inches by 18 inches. This increases leverage and decreases wounded knuckles...

I use a deep socket on a rachet for one wrench and it works quit well for me. It seperates the wrenches thus saving the fingers. :D

Are you using the one hand method? I actually prefer two wrenches to spindle locks and one wrench. Using one hand puts no load on your machine while tightening.
