I am trying to carve a poem.
For some reason the top and bottom part are very clear but the poem itself is very difficult to see.
Any suggestion about what I am doing wrong, please?
How do I attach a tap file please?
Cheers

Re: Carving Depth
Looks like your letters are small and narrow. V-carving carves deeper when the lines making up the v-carved letters are thicker. When you have really small narrow letters like this, the bit will only be barely scratching the surface. Options to fix include using a bit with a narrower angle (sometimes I use a bit with a 45-degree included angle for this kind of text), picking a font where the lines making up the letters are a bit wider, making the font a little bigger, or making the font bold, which adds thickness to the lines.

Re: Carving Depth
I worked it out.
I had set the preview to material colour instead of a contrast colour
All is good

Re: Carving Depth
Just one more thing, Wolffie...
When you v- carve small text, it is very important that your material is flat and a consistent thickness. It would be a good idea to surface the entire top of your material a small amount to make sure it is flat. I would typically pocket the entire top by about .030 inches to do this.

We start from slabs and got through the whole kitandkaboodle with resawing, jointer, thicknesser and drum sander before we do any work at all.
Not very much prefab around here, people mostly fell their own trees.
We have a great local mill who carry most local and exotic timbers and we get all their shorts and seconds for next to nothing
