Component Object Properties Get Forgotten

I'm working on a celtic knot design that has hundreds of components.

The default "Object Property" on components I create is 52. It's much easier for me to see how things are matching up if I set it to 15.

Having done that, I find that if I group components for copying or moving, the "Object Property" reverts to 52. Both for the group and for the individual components when ungrouped. The object property value does not survive grouping and / or ungrouping for components.

Anyone know of a work around? Ideally, components could be created with the object property set to a user definable default (15 in my case). At a minimum, they would retain whatever object property they were assigned and grouping would not cause a reversion to Brian's default of 52.

Baking to reduce the component count (making loss of object property less problematic) is not an option because a small design change in one place can cascade through the entire design. I need to keep the components seperate until the design is absolutely positively complete.
