3D Dish Sizing

Post by Holzarbeiter »

I am hoping the experts here can help me.
I have been playing with putting 3d shapes into a dish using Aspire. I have the process down thanks to the wonderful tutorial videos but here is the issue Im trying to solve.
If I create a dished project, lets say its 10 x10, and I want to make it bigger after dong all the design work, I can't seem to make that happen. I can increase the workspace size,
recenter everything & recalc all the tool paths but when I do the preview the design is still centered as if the size was never changed. I tried using the "scale design with job size" box but it does not
seem to have any effect. Any ideas on what I may be missing?

Have you used the Size tool to make the actual vectors/model bigger?

Select all the vectors/models (Press Ctrl-A to select everything) then press T (or click the Set Selected Objects Size icon) and type in the values you want and press Apply.

If you increase the original set up size with the scale job option ticked then everything should resize, you should get a recalculate toolpaths message. Once resized it isn't obvious looking at the screen that anything has changed
You can also resize the original set up material size & the model/vectors size independantly using the resize tool either by percent or to a fixed size
Using the latest version & just checked it is all working ok for me

Thanks for the quick replies, Adrian & Martin. I will try the suggestions given. Perhaps I had successfully changed the size and just did not realize it from the rendition. I do use Aspire 9.5
Previous efforts were the scale design with job size and also selecting all vectors and doing a resize with the tabs.

I will let you know how I make out with your suggestions.

Thanks, Randall. I thought it was a clever way to keep the German side of my heritage alive. I was born there as an army brat.
I just wish I had a better mastery of the language.

Well, I resized my carving from 10 x 10 to 12 x 13 using the methods desribed here...and it worked! So thanks for the advice.
One thing thats puzzling me though. The rough and finish toolpaths are both set to model boundary. In the preview it cuts as expected. On the actual piece however the rough cut worked as expected but the finish pass ran over the entire 12x13 area. Not only that, at the end of each side pass the gantry raised up then came back down for the next pass. That really strung out the cut time to say the least. I double checked the tool paths and they seem fine. Ive never seen this before. Could it be from resizing? Other thoughts??

We can spot the problem instantly if we could see your file. If there are no copyright models on it, upload it to Dropbox and post the link here.

Couple thoughts...

1) Are you Positive the Finish Toolpath is set to model boundary and if so, does your model actually occupy the entire 12x13 area? (That could explain why the entire area was carved)

2) Did you recalculate ALL the Toolpaths after resizing?

Michael, thanks for the reply and thoughts. I will be in the shop today and get a copy of the crv file I used. Im fairly certain the tooling say Model Boundary. But your comments are making me wonder
if somehow when I resized the project the new 12x13 area "became" the new model. I assumed it would still be just the dish and the artwork within it.

PS...a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the wonderful projects you create and share with Vectric users.

One thing that catches me out all the time is that the software remembers your last selection so now I always go back & double check the toolpaths before saving the g code. Got caught out only last week when I was having problems because I had looked a a free project where they had used select by level
