Scanned image problem

I've had this problem before and I was hoping someone has a simple solution. The attached image is typical. After I scan an image, I save it as a JPG, I trace it with Inkscape, then save it as an EPS. When I import the EPS in VCarve Pro all of the vectors have double lines. I can delete the extra lines but with some images it's not that easy. Has anyone come up with a way to work around this problem?
