Greetings all!
I want to experiment a bit making engraved nameplates and signs on Rowmark type (2 ply) material. Can anyone offer advice as to type of bit to use, feedrates, etc?
Many thanks
Graham

Graham,
I am fortunate to clock in every night at midnight and work for 8 hours and operate and grind, sharpen tooling. Not as fin as it sounds So I was able to pull some scrap out of the bin and make my own.
But there are many places out there that manufacture these small tools for such jobs. And there is even a thread with information with many links for tool manufacturers. Here is the thread that Jay started (Chuck's (CRFultz) idea ): http://vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=278
And I've just done a search on micro tooling and added it to the above thread.

I just made this special sign to a customer.
The base plaque (200x500mm) is MDF and the front plate brushed alu/black in 2 ply material similar to Rowmark.
For the 2 ply I used a single flute 2mm endmill, and a sharp engraving bit to finishing.
Spindle speed 12000 rpm and feed rate 800mm/min.
The red part is made in a vinyl cutter and attached afterwards.
The base plaque was made "by hand" in a fixed machine because the setup is there all the time.
