Smoothing pocketing motions?

Post by Gnarly Gnu »

I use the VCP pocketing function fairly often, typically just removing material from largish circles or slots so I often have a 80% or 90% stepover in offset mode. I am wondering if there is a method to smooth the cutting action between each pass?

For example when clearing out a circular pocket the router will do the inner circle first, then pause whilst it moves outwards for the next pass then it proceeds to cut the second pass and so on. I would like the transition between each pass to be smoother / ramped so that the machine doesn't come to a virtual stop between each pass as it does currently. This is both wasteful of time and bad for the cutter. I know there is the option to ramp the initial plunge into the material but this is not my problem.

Can anyone suggest a work around or does this go onto the VCP feature request list? Could there please be a future option for a spiral pocketing motion Tony / Brian?
