Vcarve Tool path with flat bottom

Post by joeszanyi »

I noticed a change with Version 10 where the clearance cutter steps out the material before the V-bit does its cuts. Is there a way to turn this off? I would rather have the V bit do the hogging and the have the clearance cutter just cut the flat bottom area, especially when using a 1/8" bit as the clearance cutter. I think the way it used to be was the clearance cutter just cut the middle out to the flat bottom and then the v-bit did the rest but I may be wrong. I might not have gone this deep before and the clearance cutter did it all in one cut. Maybe it has always been this way? Does any one know?

Do you mean you just want to change the sequence order of the v-Bit and end Mill?

If so, you can change the cut order via your Toolpath list.

Apologies if I misunderstood.

No, I can do that. But if you change the order the clearance bit will do alot of air cutting.

I want the clearance bit to just remove the center out to the flat bottom, and then let the V bit cut the rest.

I think I should have used a large clearance bit. Using the 1/8" EM seemed to take a long time for the project I was working on. Seemed like wasted cutting because the V-bit is going to clean it up anyway.

Might have been always this way, I just noticed it on this project.

Thanks for replying.

If the image represents the actual outcome you are looking for then:
  1. create a rectangular vector the size of the flat bottom
  2. create a profile path "on the line" using the v-bit and the flat-bottom vector
  3. create a pocket toolpath with the 1/8" end mill and the flat-bottom vector
