Diamond drag Bit recommendations

Postby Aussie » Mon Nov 18, 2019 4:32 am

Hi All,

Would like to make some Edge lit LED Signs - What is your recommendation for spring loaded bits ? 60, 90, 120 deg ? Brand etc

Thank you

I just used some spring loaded cheapo diamond drag bits on eBay. I think I paid $20-30 USD for them. I used mostly 90°. They came out pretty good. Turn your spindle off.

I ran some tests of my diamond drag bit at different pressures. There was very little difference that I could see. So now I run it at .06", which is more than enough to allow for variations in the material thickness.

Thank you for the replies. A couple of questions.
When setting the Z 0 with a spring loaded drag bit... do you compress the bit and then set Z0
What do you consider the maximum vertical height that will be illuminated.

Here is my first attempt.

You set the Z 0 with the diamond just touching the reference surface. The pressure setting will cause the bit to be compressed that much when it is marking the material.
