Pocket Tool problem

Postby monlover » Sun Sep 22, 2019 4:44 pm

Hi
this looks very simple,
first time I try to pocket using Vcarve, usually i cut shapes .
this time can not figure out how to pocket this tile, as you can see the tile is .75 thick, need to pocket the top left and bottom right shape 1/4 inch.
VCarve message at the toolpaths is about open vector, I try to join and using the vector validator but no hope.

so what how to used the pocket tool in this case.
Thank you

The curves need to be closed vectors.

Easiest was is to copy the box then use the Vector Trim tool to remove the corners not wanted (make sure the Rejoin Trimmed Sections is checked) then paste the original box back.

You need to create another set of vectors that are closed to run the pocket toolpath. I've created them for you on the attached file on the Pocket layer (orange colour) with the original vectors being on Layer 1.

It was simply a matter of cutting the corner straights with the Interactive trim tool set (scissors) with the join option set to create those vectors.

Thank you very much for the quick reply and your explanation,

i am trying to re do what you said but how to use the trim tool to delete the unwanted corners and at the same time keep the original drawing at layer one as you did,
after trimming the un wanted corners and adding them to the orange layer two, the layer one now has missing original corner that being trimmed!!
Thank you

The easiest thing to do is to copy everything to another layer, make sure it is the active layer, using the snipping tool, as Adrian said, snip the unwanted lines, making sure rejoin vectors is turned on, close the snipping tool. You should have a closed vector that you can use for pocketing.
