V10 vcarve / engraving toolpath

Post by ken whiklo »

In V10 under the vcarve / engraving toolpath the tool database that is displayed is only v-bits and ball nose. No end mills are available. This is a change from version 9.5. I have looked through the documentation and I find no mention of this. Vectric support tells me that this is the normal behavior. Yet Quick engraving tool path displays the whole database. Can others confirm this.

The VCarve/Engraving toolpath has only ever allowed v-bits and ball noses in the main toolpath. You can use an endmill in the flat clearance section. Are you thinking of that perhaps?

With V10 you can have multiple clearance tools which can also be endmills. So as far as I can see there is no change in functionality.

Quick engraving is a different type of toolpath and behaves in both versions the same way.

Right click on the tool database list and unselect "Hide Groups with Incompatable Tools". It will let you select any tool and create a toolpath for it but I don't know how it will cut.

In 9.5, it does show them you're right, but it doesn't allow you to select them which is why they're faded like that. In V10, it's hopefully a cleaner view over the tools which you can actually select. If you want to show everything, you can go to the dialog through the menu.

I get it now. That option to hide or not is not in V9.5. I guess I never had occasion to try the other tools.
Thanks for the clarification.

I'm not that good with Aspire and certainly no expert. When new tools or features are introduced I really enjoy learning about them so I spent some time with the new tool database and watched the video. BTW, the video is excellent.

Yes but you can't select them. The only change to 10 is that it doesn't, by default, show tools that are not selectable for the current toolpath.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's possible to see "invalid" tools (ones we've disallowed for an toolpath and always have). There is an option to hide "unset" tools (those are valid tools that don't have their cutting parameters set for the active material / machine).

The option to "hide groups" just controls the visibility of folders that only contain "unset" tools. So basically if they contained tools that were suitable, it would display a usual.
