So I finally got it, don't know how but it works. Plain stubbornness.

Re: Stacked text
Glad you got it Ken.
It's a bit confusing but very satisfying.
So, I am guessing that you grouped the text and then welded for the bottom layer.

Re: Stacked text
You know Leo I thought I did that at least 50 times. One thing I missed was in the video you highlighted the gentleman made sure the first set of vectors were "copied" the a layer, but I missed the fact that the second set were "moved" to a layer. I had a hell of a time with those layers, think I need more tutorials. Thanks for the support. This forum is truly a huge resource for those of us learning.

Re: Stacked text
I am getting ready in my shop to be making stacked text signs for sale. I hope to making hundreds of them. My friend come to my shop to hang out and do some stuff, so I have been training him in lots of stuff. Currently he is learning - stacked text sines. He is going through the exact same issues.
Thanks to Vectric they provide the AWESOME tutorials that we learn from.
I am really happy this forum was able to help you with the stacked text.
I do hope you post pictures of the finished product.

Re: Stacked text
Leo,
I hope you are taking advantage of the template for stacked text. It has helped me with the process as I only use it once in a while.
As I spend too long between the designs, I needed a way to be able to produce them without having to go through the tutorials each time.
I also wrote the process I use on a separate file with my instructions to help with the gap between the ears.
Anyway, for those who have not seen it, here is the template tutorial for the stacked text.

Re: Stacked text
I'm just learning stacked text myself.
But what I don't see in your file is the document variables tab filled out.
Isn't that where you describe your depths of each layer?

Re: Stacked text
Whose file are you referring to? The last post links to the tutorial which does use the document variables but it doesn't have to be done that way. Many people just set the depths directly in the toolpaths.Jan.vanderlinden wrote:I'm just learning stacked text myself.

Re: Stacked text
I think one of the problems are you working with layers. I shut off each layer to see what was on what and on one layer there was nothing ( I believe the top layer) when you are working with layers you must ensure the one you want to be active is made to be active, it doesn't do this automatically. both names shut off when I clik off the bottom layer. That one is apparently active when you are trying to work on the top.

Re: Stacked text
Not to high jack someone else's thread but I thought the solution to this maybe helpful to other's as well.
I'm learning stacked text as well, and have run into a problem that I can't resolve.
In my first pocket cut, I'm using a 60° V bit for the text and it comes out looking good.
In the second cut I'm using a pocket I'm using a .125" end mill with a .25" clearance tool.
The problem that I'm running into is that the second cut does not respect the angle of the 60° first and thereby squaring up all the letters.
Any thoughts?

Re: Stacked text
your vectors are to the center of the bit. You are using different bits. The center of the v bit is a lot less over ride than the center of the .125 em. You would have to set a boundary on how far you want the end mill to go
