VCarve Pro Flat_Round_Oval Clip Art

Board is .50" thick and when I insert this oval clip art in subtract mode the top is all jagged in the preview screen. Any ideas where to adjust this?

You need to add a zero plane when you're working with shapes like that. The last icon on the 3D modelling tools.

Adding the zero plane will fix this.

Still trying to get my head around this. I read the example rcnewcomb linked to above but how do I not get the ball nose to NOT cut the zero plane? I'm sure it is simple but I'm missing a step here somewhere. I tried letting the software insert the zero plane and gave the dish a vector outline but still get the tool marks. I tried creating a rectangle the same size of my work piece and give it a flat shape with 0 height but the tool wants to carve this along with the dish and clip art in the dish.

Put a vector boundary around the clip art then set the roughing/finishing toolpath Machining Limit Boundary to Selected Vector Only

I tried that but still don't get a smooth transition from the bowl to the top of the work piece. Tool marks are still there according to the preview pane.

Not sure without actually tooling it. Kinda looks like mine and not smooth around the top edge.

What have you got the toolpath preview resolution set to? It may be that the preview resolution is set to low which is giving the impression of a ragged edge.

Click on the toolpath tab at the top of the screen & it is under Preview simulation quality
