Double lines

Post by andyrud »

Hi Everyone,
I am new to all this.

When I open a vector file I downloaded from shutterstock or someone else the single line item has two lines when it is opened in my Vcarce Desktop software. Is there a way to make the double lines a single line? I need a single line so I my CNC machine can cut "on" the line and not carve between the lines. I am making small pieces and when it cuts both lines the design is destroyed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hope all is well with you,
Andy R

The double lines are caused by the tracing algorithm used just so you know.

Those types of files usually have other issues as well. Not sure what kind of software you have but what you could try doing is offsetting either the inside lines or the outside lines by half the distance between them and then erasing the original ones.

I would recommend that you decide first to go inside or outside and then erase the ones you are not using first. Good luck!

I'm not sure of what software was used to trace or whether you did the tracing but Corel Draw has a "Centerline Trace" tool that works pretty good most of the time.
