How to select drawing on both sides on double sided part

Hello!

The support for double sided jobs is really very helpful. It makes it all simpler and you save a lot of time.
But I have a small problem: How can I select parts of the drawing on both sides at the same time to move it?

Could be wrong (often am) but I am not sure you can, give a bit more detail about what you want to do & possibly some screenshots & you might get a better answer or an alternative way to do what you want

If you have both sides on separate layers (which you should) then be sure both layers are active and visible, then you can highlight them and move them.

Draw a rectangle around the object you want to move. Center the rectangle by hitting the RECTANGLE FIRST, then the object and using the Align Object (Center object on last selected object). MOVE the rectangle to where you want to move the object, then COPY the rectangle to other side. On the FIRST side, select the OBJECT FIRST, then the triangle. Now on the other side, select the OBJECT FIRST then the rectangle.

With the Move tool you can enter direct values to place objects exactly where you need them.

In addition, I use the Fixed Nudge feature (a lot!) when arranging/moving items during layout.

It’s particularly handy for two-sided projects when I want to move item(s) a precise amount to maintain alignment Top and Bottom. (You cannot select Top and Bottom items at the same time, by the way.)

Example: I want to nudge/move certain items by lets say, 0.25”. I press F4 to open the Snapping Options menu. I enter 0.25” in the Fixed Nudge Distance, then close the menu.

Now, I can select any item(s), hold down Ctrl-Shift and press the up/down or right/left arrows on the keyboard to move them by exactly 0.25” in this example. (You can specify any fixed nudge amount you want.)

If it’s a two-sided job, just flip to the other side, select the corresponding item(s), and do the same thing. Alignment is maintained perfectly.

For me, the Fixed Nudge feature is golden!

But I' m using VCarve for more than 10 years.
That's why I know all these workarounds. But I was afraid that I missed something. But it looks like Vectric forgot something here.

I'm sure you'll agree: All these workarounds are more or less complicated.
The new functionality "double sided" should make things easier, not more complicated.

It is usual to rearrange some parts at the end of the work. This should be possible.

I hope Vectric provides a "select and move" function for objects on different sides.

You can email Vectric to raise it as a request for future versions.

Personally I think being able to select and move vectors on both sides at the same time could lead to a lot of issues. The current toggle method is simple and works.

Yes, the current method is by no means a workaround. It’s simply how the software works.

Won’t hurt to contact Vectric with your suggestion, though.

Make change to vector on the one side then Right Click Mouse - Select 'Copy to other side' then delete the old vector on that opposite side.

This is how I have been accomplishing changes to both sides of vectors beings that you are not able to grab/select vectors together on opposite sides at the same time.
Maybe a future version will have this capability but until then this is how I achieve results.

That’s how we all do the initial layout, yes. Copy to other side. But, if you have already toolpathed for both sides, you may not want to delete existing items...

I believe the topic is more about how to move items after the initial placement, though. Ya know...final position tweaking after Toolpaths have been generated and so on.

Naturally, we will need to Recalculate Toolpaths after moving things, but at least we don’t need to start from scratch if an item has been deleted

okay then I'll add to my initial post-- the toolpath is still there (you are not starting over from scratch) all you have to do is re-assigned the new vector(s) to that toolpath and calculate --- viola!!!
