Re: Comments
Nice job, Jerry! How did you get the “two-tone” finish?
I do see a couple “minor trouble” areas in the carving that you could have avoided.
1) The Bit you used for pocketing was too large to fit between the border and the letters T and e. If you moved the entire word (Territory) away from the border a smidge, then material would not have been left behind.
2) A similar issue between the letters t and o. Either spacing them apart a little or using a smaller bit would have cleared the connecting material there.
Remember that the Toolpath preview will show minor issues like this before actual carving. This gives opportunity to make layout adjustments before committing to wood.

Re: Comments
I'm curious why you use poly after/over tung oil?

Re: Comments
Curious as well about the poly Jerry.
A lot of "Tung Oil Finishes" have NO Tung(or very little) in them at all!
Was it a "Tung Finish" or was it actually 100% Tung, and then thinned to your preference?
Personally find 100% pure Tung, a little bit of a pain unless thinned.
Another coat or two of 50 and up to 75% pure Tung would have given you a build up to get the sheen you like probably. Once it builds up...it can go quick.
I find the "Poly" look too shiny/"plasticky" for my tastes usually...but that's just personal preference.
I like the two tone as well!
Have a wonderful New Year Jerry!

Thanks for all your feedback, the reason I put poly over the tung oil was the person
receiving the sign will not do any maintence ( buffing ,re oiling, etc) so I just put some
poly on to preserve it. I am a big fan of buffed (real) tung oil. I don't use normally use poly.
Also Martin ,I could'nt open your message E-mail me at carneyjerry@aol.com Thanks All Jerry

Aah Jerry...Understand:)
Gave my Mom a "Heart", and asked for it back to make it "Shinier".....it worked:)
I WILL give it 2 more coats, BUT the reason will be so I can at least hand rub it for a month:)
I'll say it's taking a long time to find the right wood for a Base for it
Mom will never understand oil finishes...but she's bought a ton of oiled antique pieces because she loved them...and somebody took the first few years to do it Right!
She doesn't understand why when she brings me a piece with a broken rung,arm,etc......they always look SO much better for me gluing them:)
(Thank you Watco "Rejuvenating Oil" !!

Re: Comments
When I was a child my father built a coffee table and some end tables out of black walnut. My mother finished them in tung oil. They received daily use so every few years my mother would re-do (rejuvenate) the finish. To this day the scent of tung oil always brings up those memories.Thank you Watco "Rejuvenating Oil"
