Printing notes

Post by Rubiconlwb »

I like to write notes on every project I design so I have a little map of how to proceed. Is there a way to print out the notes? I know I can capture the notes and paste them into notebook to print them out but I was hoping for a more elegant solution. I would use the notes to take to my shop to create the project. Any suggestions?

Notes can be printed when you create a JOB SHEET.

It's the icon next to the save tool path icon. Just click in it to open it up.

Thanks but I do not have an icon to the right of the Save icon, the one to the left is 'Tile Toolpaths'. Apparently the version of VCarve that I have does not have that feature. (VCarve Desktop). Any other way to run that feature?

I believe that is correct! There isn't a job sheet tool for desktop. Sorry a thought you had the pro version.

Cut and paste or add them to your post processor to display in your control software is the only way with desktop as you don't have the job sheet facility.

I name my toolpaths with details of bit, order of cut, etc. Example: 3-Screw down! - remove clamps -profile outside .25 em

Works for me.

For instructions like that I have my control software display them to me from the notes when I load the toolpath. I have to confirm I've read them before I can start the machine.

Very interesting method here. How does one go about making that happen in the controller?
I also currently use the naming method that reminds me of any special instruction for a given toolpath.

Depends on the control software used. With the ShopBot control software there is a message window that can be written to via commands in the post processor. I've seen it done with other control software in YouTube videos but I wouldn't know the commands for anything other than the ShopBot software.

Like you, I presently only have Desktop version and you are correct, we unfortunately cannot print out a “job sheet.” While I do name my toolpaths as noted, I have done the equivalent of doing a screen capture of the information I would want for the “job sheet” and print it.

In the future, I will simply capture the notes, paste them into Notepad and print them out using that program. I was hoping for a more elegant, built in process but this method will work. I generally write down fairly detailed notes about each project such as material used, thickness, font name, bits used and other details in performing the tasks laid out. There are so many things that can go south for me that any reminder I can give myself helps me do the machining with no problems. This has been an interesting process and like everything else related to woodworking, I learn things every day even though I have done this since I was a teenager.
