Collet sizes

Post by ken whiklo »

So received my CNC machine along with a Bosch 1617EVS router. Bosch does not make a 1/8" collect for this router. Found a company in Colorado that does. Does this sound like a good idea? All comments are welcome.

Sounds like a good idea if you want to use 1/8” diameter bits. If not, then it’s a bad idea.

Don't have the Bosh router, but I have 1/8", 1/4", 3mm & 6 mm Amana collet reducers.

Is the collet reducer good enough?

Yes, if you buy quality reducers. Been using them for years. More than likely as you get into CNCing you'll get a collection of Imperial as well as Metric cutters. Don't use try and mix Metric reducers with Imperial cutters or vise versa.

Precise Bits.com
They make collets for Bosch 1617EVS router!
I have them and there doesn't seem to be any runout with them. You can get almost any collet you will need.

Precision collet bushings can do the job for sure, but if you have the option of a native collet in the size you need, that's always going to perform the best, IMHO. It's "one less piece" of stuff that can be affected by a spot of dust or wear.
