Text cut out

I want to put some text on the top of a board then cut around the text and cut out the board .
I know to place the words on the top of the wood but can't seem to get then attached to the wood so they are part of the cut out.
Can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to do this

If I understand, just cut the board with your final design, and cut pockets for the letters. Then cut out the letters and attach in the pockets.

I guess I did not make my self clear.
I want to put SUSAN with some spacing between the letters so that the cutter can get in and cut around them
Weld ( I think this is the term) the name to the top edge of the board and profile cut around the outside of the letters and board to make it one piece.

Hi Jeff,

Place the name so it overlaps the board strip vector slightly. Space and resize the text to suit the Bit fit. Convert the text to curves, then weld the letters to the board strip. Create a profile cut for the continuous vector of the board and letters. Create through-pockets for the interior of the letters to avoid inconvenience of tab removal for interiors. (Only the letters “A” and “N” this case.)
