Over Cutting
Over Cutting
Newbie set up question -
I am trying to carve some stars and a flag as well as some letters. There are some bars in the flag that seem to be cut away and my lettering is being carved too wide. Stars being over cut ending up about half the size. I did a test cut to cut some bars .3" and they ended up .2" I double checked the bit settings, its a 60degree vbit. Got the settings for vcarve from two different sources and they are confirmed. I must have some other setting off - any ideas?

If you desire help, post your CRV file, unless it contains copyrighted materials, then post pictures of the erroneous results and screen shots of your toolpath settings

CRV File, Not the exact one, but done with the exact same measurements.

The tool is called a 0.25" V bit but the diameter is specified as 1.0625

Those are the exact specs I have in on mine. I doubled check them with two sources including Amana Tools.

I'm not sure where you came up with a diameter of 1.0625". The largest diameter I see for an Amana 60 degree V-bit is 0.5" diameter.
Also, it is best to keep the name of the tool consistent with the actual measurements.
Additionally, the file you supplied had duplicate vectors. Use the Vector Validator to catch issues like that. You can get rid of them by choosing Edit/Select Duplicate Vectors and then Edit/Delete.

They do an insert v bit Randall, found this with a search. There is no text on the file you posted. This is not an apples to apples test.

Preview of the code you posted with a 60 degree v-bit produces the results I would expect and the first two bars measure 0.25 and 0.51.
I'd double check that the feed rate and rpm's are appropriate for the combination of bit/material/machine, that nothing is flexing and Mach3 has been properly calibrated.
Assuming of course that the bit really is a 60 degree one. Just because it says it is doesn't mean it is.

Thanks for all the help so far.
The 1.0626 is from Amana tools and its not the diameter of the shaft, but the diameter of the top cutting point of the tool itself.
My preview looks almost exact also. Thats why I cant figure out why this is happening. I measured the bit and it is a 60 degree, it also says 60 and has the tool number RC-1148 on the shaft. Amana tools in response to an email said to check the actual angle, it may be off from the factory. Really???
I am going to it all again and check the vector validator and let you all know what happens.

Ignore the preview. It's perfect because it doesn't exist in "reality". If your depth of cut is not exactly 0.3 inches and your bit's included angle is not exactly 60 degrees you'll have problems.
