free software upgrade

Student had Vcarve-pro free edition w/Makerspace V 9.017 July 2018. Brought it to V9.510 in classroom for review and processing for the router. Executed the job fine.
Brings the saved file back home and couldn't open file. Pop-up said written in newer version.
Went to Vectric web site and found update page. A note stated could do update from within the software. Under Help/Check for updates. But there is no option like that. Looked elsewhere in software and couldn't find where he could do that.
So back to Update web page and downloaded the update to V9.511. Update appeared to run but then said "Can't find Vcarve-Pro software to update.
So, student has V9.017 files that seem to work fine going to the full paid version of Vcarve Pro V9.510 (all with Makerspace). But can't take the file the other way.We have been conduction classes on the software for several months and this is the first time we hit this.

You really need to contact Vectric directly as this is primarily a user to user forum but as far as I'm aware you would need to download a new trial version from the website rather than an update as the trial version can't be updated.
