VCarve - version 9.508
2D Profile Toolpath
Outside cut
When I add 3D tabs to a 2D outside profile, the cut direction automatically changes from conventional to climb. Why?
Update - actually, with a vector selected, just clicking the 'Edit Tabs' button followed by 'close' (no actual tabs added) changes the direction from conventional to climb.
Thanks
Karl

You won't be able to use 3D tabs with a 2D profile cut, don't know the answer to your question but it could be the last time you used tabs the direction of cut was the other way. With a lot of the functions the software remembers the settings from the last time it was used.
Last thing I always do before calculating a toolpath is have a look over the whole form because things like that have caught me out in the past

I can't replicate what you're seeing either with or without the 3D tabs setting. Could you attach a file showing the problem?

Here's another case where Vectric's dual terminology can cause confusion (see also VCarve vs V-Carve/Engraving):martin54 wrote:You won't be able to use 3D tabs with a 2D profile cut
On the "Add tabs to toolpath" panel for a profile is the check box "3D tabs" that I expect Karl60 is referring to---not the 3D component tabs from the, I believe as I've never used them, clip-art (which is really not clip art if it's 3D) collection.

Yes you will no doubt be correct Stevenadze_cnc wrote:Here's another case where Vectric's dual terminology can cause confusion (see also VCarve vs V-Carve/Engraving):martin54 wrote:You won't be able to use 3D tabs with a 2D profile cut

I automatically thought of the 3D clipart tabs that Vcarve has rather than the option in the edit tabs form, that's probably an old age problem
That's where pictures & screenshots come in handy

Ahh, good spot. Missed that it was 9.508 and I'm using 9.510 which is why I couldn't replicate it.

Re: 2D Profile Toolpath - Adding tabs changes cut direction
Upgrading to 9.510 fixed the issue: pressing the Edit Tabs button in 2D Profile Toolpath no longer changes the machine direction from conventional to climb.
Thanks.
Thanks.
