desktop 9.5 photo crop

Post by tjimholte »

I just upgraded to desktop 9.5 and watched the "what's New" video. The photo enhance and crop functions are nice and state that it is a good way change a file to make a lithophane. My question is how do I save a cropped photo/file so I can bring it in to Photo VCarve to make a lithophane? Photo VCarve only seems to be able to bring in BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF, and PNG files.

Anyone familiar with this?

Thanks,

TJ

I see what you mean. It only saves as a CRV file and there seems to be no way to save as or export as an image file.

There are a million free programs out there that can crop a photo.

Well maybe not a million but more than enough. I think the point was that the feature does not seem to work as advertised and yours is that it is no big deal. If you are running Windows then Paint is already installed and that has worked out quite well for me.

I didn't see anywhere that they say you can export the edited image.

Take a look at paint.net https://www.getpaint.net/ it's far better than Microsoft's paint and is easy to learn.

The idea of the feature is so that you don't need an external program to crop photos for tracing in VCarve and/or lithopane/model creation in Aspire.

That is correct. I understand that I can use paint or another of the million but one of the 9.5 upgrade videos mentioned using the cropped photo for a lithophane. I assume that meant making a lithophane in Photo VCarve yet that doesn't seam possible as it stands right now.

Adrian, are you saying this works in Aspire?

You can make a Lithophane right in Aspire.

I don't think Vectric meant that you could crop the image, and than use it in another program.

For image viewer/resizer I use: http://faststone.org/ --- if I altered images more I'd use their Photo Resizer.

I used to use IrfanView but it started suffering from feature-bloat.

Yes, Aspire can create lithopanes directly without PhotoVCarve so the picture editor is very useful in that scenario.
