Weird situation where I have a file made in 9 which calculated the vcarving for some text fine, when I open it in 9.5 and do nothing except recalculate the toolpaths it skips the letter 'a' in the text in all instances. If I try to carve just the 'a's I get: "No toolpath generated for current parameters. Check tool can fit into selectedd vectors at machining depth".
Old paths:
9.5 no longer able to carve the letter 'A'

Yeah - guessing a vector loop or crossover in the font itself (or, less likely, an open vector).
You may have “gotten lucky” that version 9 calculated a Toolpath if any of those conditions exist on that font. Posting your file will solve the mystery as to the root cause of why it’s failing now.
What is the name of the font you are using?

You can see from the picture that there is something odd with the a's on the left hand side as the toolpath should not be that shape. It's going to be a dodgy font rather than an error with VCarve.

Yes, first thing I noticed too, Adrian (maybe two suspect areas even). I’ll bet it’s a vector crossover back onto itself at that area.

Re: 9.5 no longer able to carve the letter 'A'
I found the font (actually already had it on my own computer!). The font is Cyrodiil. (I also found another font called Jarrow that looks nearly identical).
As suspected, the "a" has defective vectors at the spot Adrian and I noted. See the two screenshots below. One shows the letter "a" after converting the font to curves. The other is zoomed in to the "a" at the troublesome spot. Edit the vector (eliminate the loopback) and it will toolpath properly. As I mentioned previously, you got "lucky" that it was toolpathed before. It really should not have been expected to, due to the font defect.
