Angle Cuts using VCarve Desktop

Post by AzDusty »

Ok well the sign is complete (pictures soon), now I have a question on how to create a Military Challenge Coin using my CNC.

I know that the wood is 2in (Z) and 8in (X) and 18in (Y)

I want it to drop from 2in down to 1 1/8in with a blunt nose 7in from the top. So my question is not being the designer guru's that are on this forum, how would I go about using my router to chip away the Z and then I can figure out how to make the 7/32 slots for the coins.

Any ideas?
This is gonna be fun! Hold my beer!

Is "drop from" a synonym for "slope"? The thread title is "Angle Cuts" and this is the closest to angled that I found in the post.

"7in from the top" but the material is only 2" thick and you want to cut down 7/8" in total---where is the 7in coming from?

Blunt nose: Rounded? But if so, what is rounded?

Can you draw something on a napkin. Photograph it with your phone and post the picture(s)?

Yeah sorry for the technical jargon mix up. By Drop I did mean Slope hopefully the stick diagram I am attaching shows the project from the side.

Ok Then here is what I did to create the project.

1.) Created a profile similar to what you were looking for (2" x 6" x 1.125") to be used in creating a moulding toolpath. This toolpath consists of two toolpaths a major clearance toolpath (.25 dia endmill) and a finishing (.25 ball nose) toolpath.

2.) The slots are pockets .2188 wide spaced evenly apart cut with a .125 dia. endmill on pocket toolpaths at various depths.

3.) Beings that the material is 2" thick I would cut just a partial profile to size needed as a guide and finish my cuts on a band saw or table saw.
