I purchased a set of the ebay small tapered ballnose bits. They are metric.
If I enter them under the metric tool data base and call them for a toolpath
and I have my setup in inches will Vcarve9 use them correctly.
Hope I made sense.

Don...
Enter them in any area of the Db that you wish. here is how I would do it for a 6mm end mill:
Take a 1/4" endmill & copy it, working in the copy I would type this into the diameter box: "6*i=" (without quotes)
I would then adjust any other settings I would feel I needed to. all other settings in inches AND as you will see that the diameter is in inches (converted by VCPro)

Re: using MM bits in imperial setup
The tool database has a metric and imperial tool section. In the geometry section of the box, you have a drop down box that you can select mm or inches. It doesn't matter what tool you use after setup, the post processor will convert it automatically.

That is my question. I enter the tools in the metric tool data base and call thengarylmast wrote:The tool database has a metric and imperial tool section. in a project that is in inches the PP will convert .
Thank you

I juts tried to enter the tapered ballnose bits in the tool data base
and there is no section for metric tapered ball nose bits. I cannot
create one. The data needs to include the taper.

Re: using MM bits in imperial setup
I just made a new folder under ball nose folder for my tapered bits, the taper is an angle so doesn't matter if its metric or imperial
Long as you enter the other info in mm everything will be fine Don, most of my tooling is metric with me being in the UK but I do have some imperial tools which I use from time to time & there is no problem mixing both on a job as long as you save with the correct PP for your machine then it sorts it all out

Look at bookmark 4 of the video to see how to create the group for metric tapered ballnose bits. (You don't HAVE to create the group. It is just to make things orderly) After that it shows how to create a tapered ballnose entry.tried to enter the tapered ballnose bits in the tool data base and there is no section for metric tapered ball nose bits. I cannot create one.

Re: using MM bits in imperial setup
A little over a year ago when I first got started with the CNC router I bought mostly inexpensive Chinese tooling to keep startup costs manageable and to get some idea what results to expect from the various tool types and geometries. I purchased a fair number and assortment of the metric tapered ball nose end mills and over all I have been pretty satisfied with their performance. One caveat though is that very few of them provided the taper angle information. As long as I know the tool shank diameter, the tip radius and the cutting length I can math out the angle. It is working out very well. I did not bother to make a separate metric taper ball nose folder since each tool labelled appropriately when I enter it tdb. I simply let the post processor do its thing.

No problem here entered as metric TBN and always using Imperial drawings.
It helped that all the info was on the packaging:)
