setting space for vector lines

Post by tankerzuke »

Hello, I have tried to find an answer but cannot! I am making a sign and it will have equally spaced lines to mimic single boards glued together. I drew the lines with the draw line/polyline tool but can't figure out how to make them evenly spaced at 4.4 in a piece. The sign is 22x43 so I want 5 lines at 4.4 in apart across the workpiece. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Zuke

Under Offset and Layout on the Drawing tab look at Array Copy.

Thanks, that did it! You seem to be pretty knowledgeable on Vcarve, is there a free draw option where you can actually draw a vector line like in AI?

Not really, have you tried the draw curve tool? If you take small steps it can get you close then node edit from there.

Depends what you mean by drawing a vector line I guess. You can draw lines with the polyline tool (similar to the AI pen tool) and curves with the draw curve tool.

Best way to learn VCarve is to watch the tutorials and read the manual (help contents).

I'm talking like using your mouse or a pen tablet to actually draw a line in the program

Drawing programs like ai have a more advanced set of drawing tools but for something like this they wouldn't really do you any good, even with a dedicated drawing program you would probably draw one line & then array it   That is what I would do with the software I use for vector design which has more drawing options,
If your talking about a freehand drawing option then that wouldn't help, almost impossible to draw a perfectly straight line freehand, Well it is for me with the software I use for signmaking & I've been using that for over 15 years so you would have thought I would have mastered it by now
