I can't make this

Post by Makingtoothpicks »

I am trying to design and create a TP for a simple 3 sided box. The box will holdpaint tubes and mixing bottles.
I need on the shelf to be 2 1.5inc and 1 1.0inc holes. I think MDF would be a good material. After trying to do
this in Vcarve Pro I gave up. I could not think of or get the offsets done correctly. In fact I could get none of it
done. The heraldry and other stuff I do I can do OK as I use what looks good and fills the requirements of the
design. Cad has me beat. Best I can do is provide a picture of what I am thinking and see if anyone knows of
some plans I can get that may work. I can fit a 24X24 inch piece in my machine.

Thank You
Don

Don, try making a better drawing of what you are wanting to do. I don't think any of us can figure it out from your "drawing #1".

Shelf may look like this --- not sure about the rest of the three sided box based on your drawing and Dimensions.

What he is trying to make is a 3 sided box (open top) with the dimensions shown on the bottom square, although I don't see a depth measurement.

The top, open side would have a strip across the middle (6"wide) with the described holes in it, and possibly vertical walls to make compartments on either side.

I'm guessing he want's to do it all on the CNC, flat-pack construction style.

I'd whip up a file, but I am just leaving for work.

Sorry it was so poor. I am not good at drawing. It would only be 6 inc deep. The holes a 2" 2" and 1.5"
The distance between shelf pieces would be 6.0" as the tubes would be 5.0" tall. My intent was to make
something to hold the art supplies I use and maybe get them a home. I buy the acrylic paint in 2oz
tubes mix in 2oz small bottles and then transfer to small 1oz bottles that have line drawing nibs on them.
so the box would stand upright and save space and let me see the colors. Tube in back 2oz 5 " tall ,in the
middle 2oz bottle 5" tall and 1oz 3" tall in the front. I have just taken a picture of the line up on the 3 items.

Thank you for the replies and sorry for the confusion. Look at all the fun you have trying to guess what I had
in mind. I think I will just wing it. Cut some holes and a floor piece to make 3 shelves a back and some sides.
One reason for wanting something that could be cnc_ed was to maybe add some Vcarving to give it some
personality. appreciate all the replies thank you. Putting all my ducks in a row. LOL

Mobius is correct and the depth would be about 6"

Thank You
Don

Three paint shelves, bottom, back and two sides

This is my interpretation using dovetails for assembly with the dimensions recently provided. I have not created all the tool paths and of course if were to want to put fancy carvings on the opposite side of the sides you would have to turn the board over for a two-sided carving. Of course the back can be carved as is with fancy carvings for the inside or outside depending on how you assemble the box together.

Your Welcome! Thank You for the comment.

It was just one of several ideas that had come to my mind after reading your latest dimensions.
