inside left / outside right

I have calibrated my X carve again,
I also use V carve desktop, so in Vcarve I set up a trial carve, a 6.5in square with 3 circles inside 6in 4in 2in, I used profile toolpath and it was set to cut inside left at shallow depth of cut 0.05in, it cut perfect circles and a perfect square, but,
the square was cut inside left
the 6in circle was cut outside right
the 4in square was cut inside left
the 2in square was cut outside right
has anyone got any idea what the problem is

You need to close or join those vectors that are cutting on the wrong side

Hey Gary,

Circles and squares drawn with program are closed vectors!

I have created the same thing in VCarve 8.5 and have noticed the same as what Clockman is getting. When putting one circle vector inside a square or another circle they seem to affect each other when two or more are chosen for toolpath. But when chosen individually they are fine.

I had also done some placement checking and found that as long as you had stayed with Inside Left and changed only the Direction (Climb vs Conventional) the vectors cut both in their perspective places.

Not exactly sure why when vectors are inside of each other this happens but if you create individual toolpaths for each vector one at a time the directions do not change.

Thank you Sharkcutup, this was just a trial run to see if I had the machine calibrated properly, I don't suppose there would be any need to cut circles inside circles but handy to know about (Climb vs Conventional)

Yup, You are welcome!

Conventional vs climb comes in handy when you are cutting across vs with the grain structure avoiding things such as tearout etc... And in knowing the differences of what can occur in each instance can be very helpful.

Not exactly sure why when vectors are inside of each other this happens but if you create individual toolpaths for each vector one at a time the directions do not change.

Two vectors, one inside the other, define a close shape with an island. "Inside" becomes the space between the two vectors. So one will be inside and one will be outside of what you think they should be.

Inside and Outside as you think of them will not work the way you think if any selected vectors are completely surrounded by other selected vectors.
