Yummy Cake Pedestal Free Project

Post by WaltS »

Is there any way to make/get this usable in VCP 8.5xx? I am not ready to spend the $150 required for the upgrade for the new features I don't currently have a use for in VCP 9, but I would love to make this for my daughters upcoming wedding in a month. She just bought a really cheap and junky looking one online (she said nobody will see it anyway with the cake on it - and she's being frugal, which I appreciate) and I tried to fix it up by sanding the top and finishing it, but I still hate it.

Thanks, Walt

Here are a couple of photos of the one I carved in VCarve 8.5. I just took some time and re-created everything in VCarve 8.5 and then ran the project file on my CNC. I am not able to post the .crv file due to copyright infringement -- Sorry!

It is a rather cool project!! Just maybe Vectric & Michael will notice only time will tell.

I am like you I do not see a need for upgrading to VCarve Version 9 as of now. I have been able to accomplish so much with V Carve V8.5.

Excellent job! I'll bet you even had fun re-creating it yourself. Very cool.

Each and every free project provided by Vectric has its own unique challenges!

The Cake Pedestal Project was no different in that it has its own unique challenge with the upper and lower dome shaped parts. But with time (I am retired) and many different angles of attack (trial and error) I was able to re-create those unique challenging dome shaped parts!

To those of you who are NEW the CNC machining technology I recommend watching the Vectric Tutorials and then attempt one of the many Free Projects that Vectric has to offer. You will find as I have that with each Project that you manage to complete and even if you don't complete them you will have gained some valuable knowledge!

Keep Those Chips Flying!!!

Thanks for the posts. The thought never crossed my mind that taking a free file and having it usable within the same program of a previous version would come to copyright infringement. If so I never would have asked. I would rather have the option to just buy the file in that case. Sorry about that.

Walt,

Just download Vcarve V9 demo and see how the project has been built. It's probably not a big issue transposing it to V8.5.

BTW some projects are "free trial compatible" which means you can cut theme with the demo. But it does not seem to be the case for this one.
Best regards

Didier
