feather or sloping the border of 3D model

Post by Ton80 »

Hi,

I have been hunting around for a way to accomplish something with a model I am carving into a door.

My model is a USN Anchor. I set an offset vector boucndry around it so that I don't have high peaks anywhere inside the model area. My goal is to feather or ease that edge where the face of the material meets the vector boundry. Basically trying for something similar to what the DESIGN AND MAKE stuff looks like when placed in a dish/concave area.

So far I haven't stumbled on the right tutorial or found a post on the forums that goes into something like this. When I apply toolpathing to this I am ending up with a straight drop where the vector boundry starts and that is not what I want.
roughing and finish toolpath applied but a have sharp drop offs on the edges

Is this type of effect possible with VCP?

Ton80,
With a little creative thinking you could use the molding toolpath to create what I think you're looking for...
I made this in VCarve from an imported model..

Does this look close ??

Michael,

That is about what I am trying to accomplish. I'll take a closer look at that tool and a tutorial or two on it and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your guidance!

John,
If you're wanting to know more about this particular approach, plan to come to Jim McGrew's Aspire Camp in April.

I'll be giving a presentation on this tool and I can use this as an example ..

Thanks,
Michael
