File cutting to small

Post by Bill I »

V-Carve 9 cutting pockets to small.

I have drawn a pocket 1.375 wide and 24.00 long and using a new .375 compression bit.
When I cut the file the final pocket measures 1.3140 X 23.939 .061 to small.
I have cut this file several times with the same results.
I ask a friend who uses Enroute to draw the same pocket and send me the file and it cut perfectly. I redrew the pocket and again it cut the same as before.
What is causing this problem is it something in V-Carve 9.014 or something I did or did not do?

Thanks
Bill

What is the decimal diameter listed in the tool database for your compression bit?

What post processor are you using?
Can you attache the CRV file?

Have you set a "Pocket Allowance" of 0.030 perchance?

Leo, myself and Occam's Razor, still think its the bit diameter. (.3125 instead of .375) :D :D

Yeah - but the pocket allowance could be it too - just wish I thought of it first.

Bit dia. .375
Pocket allowance is 0.00
I did not have this problem before until I updated to ver. 9.

I am using MACH 2/ 3 arcs( inch)(*.txt).
Where do I find the CRV file?

Have you measured the actual bit to determine diameter?

Normally the cuts are very accurate. If there is a problem it is generally not the Vectric software.

Still.

If you could post the V-Carve file (.CRV) we are like a bunch of little vultures seeing who can figure it out first. We don't miss too much.

Soo - just one more on tool diameter. In the tool database, there is a field just below the "notes box" with "GEOMETRY" Diameter (D) ----- .375 Does THAT box say .375? The "name" in the box at the top of the screen does not matter.

In the tool database it is possible to name it 0.375 but have some other value in the diameter field

That is why I’d like to see the CRV file

Not that it solves the OP problem, but I was cutting out holes last night with a Onsrud 1/8" bit and the holes kept coming out too small, so I took the advice of the board and used calipers on the bit. The diameter was .113, almost ten percent off of what it was supposed to be!! I couldn't believe it. Entered the actual value in the tool database and the holes were perfect. I might expect that with cheap bits, but I would think that a company like Onsrud would have better QC than that? After that incident, I'm going to go through every bit and measure it and then put the value on the box, so I know if I have to change the value in the program.

I have looked in the v-carve folder I do not see a CRV file I will gladly post the file If I can find it.
Where do I find the CRV file?

The bit measures .375 I used the same bit to cut both the the V-Carve file and the Enroute file.
