End mill question

Post by Bb0901 »

When setting the xy position to the lower left start position do you center the end mill bit to the corner of the material or set the edge of the bit to the edge of the material
Thanks
Bill

Slip in a V-bit (just hand tight enough to hold it) center on the point, and then put in the bit you want to carve with. It will be centered.

I have done something similar using a D shaped engraving bit, quite easy to use the flat on the bit against the edge of a board but generally I just use the edge of the tool I am cutting with & set my x y position to the radius of the tool rather than zero.
Remember to set them as negative numbers though or the bit will move the wrong way

Makes perfect sense. Never thought of it like that.

When I really need to be exact, I use this centering bit. I like it because you can use it in either a 1/4" or 1/2" chuck, and I don't chance screwing up a good V-Bit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N ... UTF8&psc=1
