Picture to 3D

Post by ger.wat »

What would be the best (or even just good) practice/process to turn a 2D image into a 3D model?

I want to make 3D carvings of sleeping animals on a headboards from customer or downloaded images.

Michael,

I don't think that's going to help unless Jerry is willing to upgrade to Aspire.

It is a great tutorial though. Thanks!

Looks like around $1,650 with an upgrade from VCP, $2K without.

It wouldn't be as good as Aspire, but you can use PhotoVCarve to create the illusion of 3D from images. Even better, if you're good with photo editing software (especially creating a grayscale image) you can do a lot with PhotoVCarve. And for $150 it won't hurt your wallet as much. Very easy to take the output and bring it into VCarve as part of a larger piece.
