3d model finish pass issues - HELP!

Postby xoneeleven » Thu Oct 26, 2017 6:31 pm

Hello All,
We are carving a 3d map model using VCarve Pro 8.5

The finish pass is not actually finishing the carving properly.

The simulation model shows the finish pass perfectly.
However, the actual result shows areas that are not even carved out.

What would the most likely culprit be?

The finish pass Z-zero appears to be correct.

Photos attached...

Thanks in advance for the advice...

Mark

Are you doing a roughing pass or just the finishing pass? What size Ball nose bits are you using? In your 2nd picture you show areas where it didn’t cut, is that the only areas that aren’t cutting? The size of the bit has to fit into the areas that aren’t cutting, do they?
One way I like to check is to check the solid box at the bottom of the toolpath, it will show blue lines where the tool will fit.
If the simulation is correct it should show what the finished part will look like. I never had one that didn’t.
If you can’t get it right and you can attach the file or part of it that would be helpful to see what’s going on.

If it looks good in the preview then my first thought would be your z zero setting for the finishing pass, can you post a screenshot of the finish toolpath preview, that may help the experts with your problem

Have you checked the actual size of the bit you are using for the finish pass ?

After some further testing on the product, I believe this issue is something we have run into before.

Although the finish pass z-zero matched the roughing pass zero, they are not the same when the actual job is run.

So, we lowered the z-zero slightly lower than first pass. (under 1/100th in)

This appears to have resolved the issue.

The bit size is correct for the job size and detail. (Amana Tool 46282)

One trick I learned by accident, is to draw some oval vectors around the area that is having problems. Next copy/duplicate the finish path toolpath, and modify it as needed to test just the problem area with smaller bits, etc.
This method allows you to rule out bit sizing issues.
