Can't get Engraving Toolpath to work

Post by keralesh »

I am trying to engrave a plaque and when I pick the engraving toolpath, i get a message "Ignoring grouped open Vectors, 254 open vectors were identified, some are in groups, need to ungroup and join them. There are 24 remaining vectors. I have tried to ungroup and join, but I haven't had any luck.
I then decided to try the "Profile Toolpath" and that worked with no message, but the letters don't come out the way they should.
I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks

Ungroup vectors (right click).

Then use the join open vectors tool under drawing.

The Engraving Toolpath like the V-Carving Toolpath requires closed vectors.

To find open vectors, under Edit tab->Selection->Select All Open Vectors.

Use Node Edit and Join Close tools to close all open vectors.

If you can post your VCP file it would be helpful.

For lettering like that you should be using the Quick Engrave toolpath or a Profile toolpath set to be ON the vector. As it's all single line fonts it won't work with a VCarve/Engraving toolpath.

Worked fine for me engraving toolpath with outline only picked. 60 deg v-bit at .020" depth. Letters could use a little spacing but it does cut.

I think there might be some confusion here. It does work fine with the Quick Engraving toolpath as we've both pointed out but it doesn't work with the VCarve/Engraving toolpath which is what the OP was trying as far as I can tell.

Most people don't refer to the VCarve toolpath as engraving but it is referred to as VCarve/Engraving within the software.

I used a profile toolpath that work. Like what was stated with being a single line font I don't think an engraving toolpath will work.
