Why couldn't you lie to the machine by altering the Z height when cutting the first pass?
  • Example: Total depth of cut is .2" - start depth is .1" and depth of cut is .1".

    Raise the Z height to .1, set to 0.0 and cut the first pass.

    Then without changing the X or Y zeros, lower Z until it is -.1" and set it back to 0.0.

    Cut the second pass.
It's not ideal, and will take a bit more time, but would avoid the cut depth people are trying to avoid. Would this not work?

Sounds like it ought to work. I might play with that idea and see how it goes. I'm onto some other projects right now.
