PhotoVcarve

Post by fredfow3 »

Hey all,

We have some customers that were interested in back lit litho photos inset into the speaker housings we make. I have other software, but it's a bit confusing and tedious to operate, plus the files are not that great. Any PhotoVcarve users out here that would like to weigh in on it?

Much appreciated...

Fred

Fred...
Take a peek at the Photvcarve Gallery section of the forum. Along with some impressive pieces of work, a number of users have even shared their methodology

I don't want to deprive Vectric of some funds but if you are upgrading to Aspire you won't need photovcarve as well, Aspire will do lithophanes for you

See this thread for using Aspire to vcarve photos. It's an old thread and some of the steps can be greatly simplified with the latest version of Aspire.

Yep, Aspire can do everything PhotoVCarve can it's just a different process. For PhotoVCarving convert the photo to a model and do a 3D finish toolpath (raster set at 45 degrees) using a v-bit with a largish stepover (experiment for the look you need).

FWIW, the free Vectric project "Big Buck Bank" is an example of the process Adrian described.

http://www.vectric.com/cool-stuff/proje ... -Bank.html

(I created thin models in Aspire from scans of a dollar bill (front and back), exported them as STL, then imported the STL's into separate instances of VCP where the v-carve toolpaths were created. This was so the project was compatible for VCP as well as Aspire owners.)

The question was about Litho's which Aspire certainly can do, the OP has said in another thread that he is upgrading from Vcarve to Aspire which is for some of us a lot of money, I wouldn't personally want to be spending more than I had to

Yes, Fred said he was upgrading to Aspire for stepping up his guitar-making capabilities. Happily, he can "do it all" with Aspire (lithos, photo v-carving, and all the 3D stuff he has a hankering for)!

Yes, this is true. My business partner is more artistically oriented and not so much a software or machine guy. He needs a quick, easy way to do his back lighting projects and stuff that PhotoVCarve seems right for. I think he might get bogged down in the complexity of Aspire... I appreciate that Aspire can pretty much do everything, but that's on my plate to learn it. For the extra few bucks, it's worth giving him somthing he can manage.

Thanks for all the comments!

Hi Fred,

I can understand your reasoning. Photo VCarve will keep photo engraving tasks easy and quick for your partner. Virtually no learning curve for that.
