Martin...You ain't seen me SMILE:) When right kidney went necrotic and was misdiagnosed for a month...pain chipped or snapped off a tooth almost every other night. My smile is what kid's nightmares are about :)

I must have spent a couple hours roaming the house trying figure out that stepover question:)
I guess it all boils down to..If somebody asks me "Is that the best you can do?"...I want to answer "At that time...Yes."
I used to ask my carpenters that when I was building my Craftsman influenced house, and they weren't used to working on labor and material job(contract work where speed is important)...It was tough getting it through their heads for the first few months that it was OK to take extra time and do it so they'd be proud of it.
...10 years afterwards, the lead carpenter came back and asked if he could roam the house...I caught him nodding his head a couple times at some of the joinery, and I asked him "What!?"
He said "Yes, this was the best I could do"

Buttons taught me that some extra time on the machine, saved TONS of time down the road...Yes, I could make a batch of 30-60 in half an hour, but that turned out to be 3 times the finishing time.

Ya gotta remember that small Ballnoses are new to me, and things like Michael's Dragon have such fine detail, that ANY sanding is going lose some details...and I'll be darned if I'm going to run the toolpath twice to get rid of fuzzies! :D

Claro Dragon was 3% stepover just to be WAY safe, And I LOVED how the finish was as good as 400G sanded wood!
Cocobolo (now 95% sure of the species) WAS moved WAY up to 4% stepover! :)
Cocobolo was last piece of suitable that I had, so no do overs, and didn't want to muck it up.

I'll play with finding where the finish I like, and max speed meet, doing 1-2 hour files like the Lion sized ones.
I like being proud enough of my work so I can sign it...and I'm PICKY/HATE SANDING/ and I'M LAZY...and prefer to let the machine do the work! :D :D
THERE...Less than a 5,000 word personal history and explanation!
scott

Oh...I bought another set right after I tried out the first one, also 1 more single of the .25mm R in both the .125 and .25"(3" length) shank.

Scott,

The so called Bubinga looks like Padauk. I always admire your fine detail. Keep up the fine work.

Not Padauk Robert...to heavy, pores are different as well as the oil color when wiped with thinner and a paper towel.
End grain at 10X, plus the weight and color transfer make me 95% sure it's Cocobolo like 2 pieces I know are Cocobolo.
The thing that threw me was it was labeled in pencil "Bubinga" and it wasn't my handwriting:)
Of course I could have just had Bubinga on the brain, and imagined it :D
Fair amount of experience with Padauk...This ain't it.
Thanks
scott

Scott,
Quick question. Did you have any issue chucking theses up in your 1/8" collet? And is the shank truly .125"

The ones I ordered were exactly 0.125" shanks -- at least as accurate as my digital micrometer could measure.

Finally had a project to use the 1mm Radius, But on a wood I've never cut before(Red Gum a friend from Oz brought in his suitcase 2 yrs ago:).
2 sided "Heart" project for Dad(<6 months to live) so VERY cautious cuts as time and wood is scarce.
Roughing with Drillman1's new(longer CEL) .125" Downcut in a very dense wood went VERY smoothly once tweaked.
VERY conservative finish toolpath at (IPS) 1,1,16K and 4% stepover(35:20), and had put a light coat of Linseed/Beeswax "Butter" on 20 minutes earlier to keep dust down as I don't like freshly oiled wood in my DC steel drum, so don't use DC for finish.
The kinda "Smiley Face" pic shows the dust staying very close to the model, even with spindle fan blowing down on it:)
I was worried a little about an Offset Conventional toolpath finish, so Z-Zeroed as normal, and then nudged Zero up .01"(Had a .02" allowance) to check finish quality with that bit.
Smooth as a baby's .... :)
Still impressed by these bits!
Doing second side with all 7 kid's names squeezed in with hopefully the same font(Vladimir Script), and I think it will only take a wet sanding with 400G, and then a 600G Abranet to bring to finish quality. :D

Time to play with fonts on second side so I can cut:)
Going to use the same bit combo for a "Heart Pedestal"...First two sided 3D....Hoping I don't MUCK IT UP!!!

Bubinga also known as African Rose wood.
A very hard wood.
Love that wood.

Second side ready for 7 tiny names(tomorrow).
Leaving the tabs thick so I don't have any vibration, a clean up pass after names are engraved will leave only .05" thick wood to razor cut.
Hmm....Didn't realize the was an American Red Gum.....Better call this by the right name so people know it's from Australia...River Red Gum.
https://www.wood-database.com/river-red-gum/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_camaldulensis

They certainly don't give this wood away here in the US!
https://www.cookwoods.com/collections/red-gum

Certainly cuts well...have to be careful VCarving though....I used Michael T's numbers of IPS .3, .3, 18K with an Onsrud 30engraving .005" flat yesterday, and will tomorrow as well:)
Oh Mark, that second "Dragon" sunk in water, so 99% sure it's Cocobolo.
Thanks Brian!

That tiny Chinese TBN 1mmR, left me only to wet sand at 400G:)
600G will bring out the shine:)
Fits VERY comfortably in the hand as I wanted.

I agree - Fantastic job Scott.

I am also in agreement on getting the best finish possible out of the machine and not so much sanding.

I enjoy reading your posts.
