vcarve pro 9
vcarve pro 9
Trying to take a photo and either emboss it or 3d it into a plaque. Do I need to download a v3m or stl file and if so how do I proceed.

Not quite sure what you are trying to do, Vcarve doesn't have any modeling tools but even if it did producing a 3D model from a photo is a job that requires a fair degree of skill.
Vcarve will cut 3D models & there is already a fair selection within the software, if you are looking for a particular model or something that isn't already contained within the software then there are a number of places you can either buy them or download them for free. You are unlikely to find any V3M models for free as it is a Vectric format. Vcarve will import several different 3D file formats, these can be either purchased or found for free on the internet at various places
