Re: STL help
It's always nice to see the end product of a discussion thread like this.

Re: STL help
I have the same file and was wondering how to do the same thing that Dave did, do away with all the background and just keep the fish. I do have Aspire 8.5 - - will get the 8.517 patch when I can close the stuff I'm working on.

Re: STL help
Have to agree with Randall, always nice to see the finished outcome when help has been asked for like this, will probably help others in the future as well so thanks for posting the results Dave.
As for the text, I generally find that if I slow the feed down when cutting text I get better results (less chipping & tear out). Obviously takes longer to cut but to me the results are generally worth it. You will get the same sort of problems you experienced with almost any font & quite often you don't have a lot of choice what font you use if it is being done for a customer

Re: STL help
I knew the potential for tearout with any font in this project as after the initial pocketing, I could see that I had cracks and knots. But being any outdoors signs with a rustic look, I took a chance. I did slow down considerably when doing the letter profiles, but just couldn't avoid it. And since it was for me, I can always make another one when I get tired of this one.martin54 wrote:As for the text, I generally find that if I slow the feed down when cutting text I get better results (less chipping & tear out). Re: STL help
Thank you for all the positive comments. Though it may not be the most complicated project, it is my largest to date and wouldn't have been able to make it without the help of the people of this forum.

Re: STL help
Thanks. I just used the texture toolpaths and played with the settings until I found the look I liked. I used a .25" ballnose.
