Why wait?
Simple. There's no guarantee that 9.0 will be released within 12 Months. They have given zero time line. I already own desktop. I have yet to need to carve bigger than 25" x 25" without tiles anyways.
And yes, the 2 sections on upgrade vs update do in fact contradict each other. But there is now an official response clearing it up.
