Carving a long sign
Very new to CNC. I have a Shark HD4 extended bed, and want to carve a 3' wide X 20" high sign. How to I re-oriantate my file to accomodate that? Can't seem to figure that out!

Re: Carving a long sign
If I follow your question correctly, I have experienced the same issue. I would simply set my material size to x=20", Y = 36". Enter the letters for the sign and rotate it 90*. Position the letters on the material as desired, calculate the toolpath and you're ready to cut.

Re: Carving a long sign
Thanks, but I thought I could set X 36 and Y 22 and use one of the functions to re-orientate the file to cut it that way. Am I wrong?

Re: Carving a long sign
Steve: If you start making longer signs, you will use the tile function in V-Carve. I saw a sign that was 8' using that feature and you couldn't see a flaw in any of the letters.
Y axis will be your long run all the time.

Just to follow on from what Steve has said about toolpath tiling this tutorial explains it, there are other tutorials that cover tiling as well I know the howling wolf Tutorial does & there is also a tutorial on 3D tiling, there may be others that cover it as well.

Re: Carving a long sign
Long signs can be done also by creating/designing them in V-Carve X=48" Y=24" then once you are satisfied with everything including your tool paths perform the following:
A.) group all your vectors
B.) rotate the grouped vectors to the proper orientation
C.) re-create material size in the correct orientation (X=24" Y=48")
D.) re-align vector group to center of material
E.) un-group all vectors
F.) then do a recalculate of tool paths
You are then GOOD TO GO!
This has always worked for me so I thought I'd pass it along!
