Per treating wood

Post by Makingtoothpicks »

I have seem many post on finishing. I would like to know what is a good treatment for wood to prepare it for engraving , Vcarving and 3D work.I use both dye and stain. I know if I use dye I have to do that first. For stain I can use a pre-stain. Is there anything I can use to get the wood ready for working on . Really for softer woods .

Thank You
Don

A coat or two of the finish will reduce fuzzies. Then another coat after carving to reduce bleeding. All of the coats will make it easier to wipe (and/or sand) off the excess paint you use to fill the carving.

You could always try Minwax wood hardener. It's used to preserve soft, punky (rotted) wood.

Thank You for the replies. I will look into the hardener.
