How do I get a "uniform distance" edge aroung a vector.

Post by kristenanne77 »

Lets say I have a strange shaped vector with straight lines and curves and would like to create a pocket around it so that it is exactly the same distance from the edge all the way around... how would I do this?
I tried copying the vector and then resizing it so that it is smaller than the original and use this as the basis for creating the pocket, but it was not a uniform distance from the edge....
is there a way to do this?

Thanks
K

Hi K,

Have a look at this discussion:

And of course, RTFM :D

Vectric manuals are very good, but of course, you cannot catch every feature at the first reading.

Reading them again after having practicing the software is always a good way of memorizing new concepts.

First, you need to join the vectors.

Then use the Offset selected vectors tool to produce the border. Left hand tool in the bottom line of tools.

Or you could simply use a profile toolpath outside the line if a pocket that is the width of your bit is OK.

Note that if you use the pocket toolpath, you will need to select both the vector you are outlining and the border vector.
