Sometimes I can't get a 3d pic to show in drawing tab .

A few questions:
1.
After importing an stl file in the modeling tab, and having the view set to "Tile Windows Vertical", I sometimes see the file in both views after exiting (closing) the modeling tab. But sometimes I don't. It would only show up in the modeling view with "just a blank rectangle" in the Drawing tab. What would cause me not to see the object? (sometimes the 3d objects are "huge" in comparison to my working area, but I scale them down in the modeling tab - but still sometimes I don't see them )

2.
Is the red outline of the box supposed to be the dimensions I enter when I Set Up the material size in the very beginning? When I change my setup size, the red outline doesn't change.

3.
Many time I can't get a vector for a toolpath. When I click on the object I will get the Move and Scale type of rectangle , but not the toolpath. I get the error "No suitable vector selected" when I try to cut a toolpath.

Appreciate any help ...

Thanks
K
